This session will emphasize the pre-treatment evaluation protocol for the management of patients with failing single tooth implants as well as full-arch reconstructions. Understanding of fundamental biologic as well as mechanical principles is essential for predictable outcomes. However, complications and failure do occur. This session will review the evaluation of complication sites and their management using the immediacy concept. Immediate replacement of failed single implants whether in the maxillae or the mandible will be discussed with emphasis on site preparation after removal of the failed implant. Management of complications in full-arch restorations using tilted implants as well as the management of failed zygoma implants will be presented.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Understand medical conditions which may affect osseointegration.
Know the difference between early vs. late implant failure.
Manage failed implants for immediate replacement.
Comprehend biomechanical principles which may reduce implant failures.
