This cadaver dissection course will review the surgical anatomy associated with approaches to the facial skeleton, including the periorbital region, scalp, mandible and maxilla that might be required in facial trauma surgery and ablative tumor surgery of the maxillofacial region. Procedural exercises, including salivary gland surgery, neck dissections, tracheotomy and local flap surgery, also will be reviewed to provide a comprehensive head and neck dissection experience.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

Describe the anatomy associated with surgical access to the orbit, maxilla, mandible and temporomandibular joint.
Examine the anatomic dissection associated with excision of the parotid gland and submandibular gland, particularly as it relates to identification and preservation of motor nerves in and about the dissection.
Explain the anatomic dissection associated with surgical airways, including the tracheotomy and cricothyroidotomy.
