Students often aren’t exposed to oral and maxillofacial surgery early and may not pursue the specialty until later in their education. This interactive course will present different strategies for engaging learners earlier to motivate them to pursue the OMS specialty and dispel myths about the profession. Attention will be given to engaging students during didactic and clinical sessions to help them become the best dentists they can be, with an understanding of how to perform surgery safely. Discussions will include strategies to keep students engaged throughout dental school and technologies to reach the new generation of learners as well as the challenges of incorporating the tech.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

Examine strategies educate and inspire students early in the dental school experience to consider the OMS specialty.
Analyze what various institutions are doing to keep students engaged throughout their education.
Discuss new tech innovations that can be incorporated into teaching oral and maxillofacial surgery.
