This course will review various osteotomies including maxillomandibular advancement with alterations to traditional orthognathic surgery techniques, distraction osteogenesis/maxillary expansion, genioglossus advancement, inverted L mandibular ramus osteotomy and custom total joint replacement as means to increase the size of the airway and thus improve breathing for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The course also will give with a brief history of surgery for treatment of breathing disorders and a work up of the patient and then proceed through the various osteotomies and describe the alterations to surgical technique to best achieve airway expansion.

Explain the indication for various osteotomies in the treatment of OSA.
Describe modifications to the osteotomies for increasing airway volume when compared to the traditional orthognathic surgery osteotomies.
Determine the ways in which virtual surgical planning can help deliver more precise outcomes to the surgical patient.
