This 50-minute course will help oral maxillofacial surgeons diagnose and treat the various causes of limited mouth opening in four 10-minute lectures followed by a panel discussion. The first lecture will differentiate myofascial causes of limited opening versus disorders of the joint itself. Once the classifications have been clarified, various minimally invasive treatments will be discussed. The second lecture two will discuss the causes and treatment of progressive non-painful limited mouth opening. The final lectures will on fibro-osseous ankylosis and its surgical treatment and review limited mouth opening in the pediatric population.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:

Describe the difference between myofascial causes of limited opening versus disorders of the joint itself.
Discuss surgical intervention of fibro-osseous ankylosis.
Explain various causes of limited mouth opening in the pediatric population.
