Maxillary defects can be the result of traumatic, infectious or pathological causes. No matter the cause the reconstruction of a maxillectomy defect is a difficult task. This course will review a defect-driven approach to reconstruction of the maxilla including obturators, dental implants, zygomatic implants, local and regional flaps and free flap reconstruction.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Distinguish the different types and classification systems of maxillectomy defects.
  2. Examine which reconstruction techniques are available for the reconstruction of maxillectomy defects.
  3. Examine the indications, contraindications and pros and cons of each reconstruction type for maxillectomy defects.
