SS04 - Surgical Approaches for Sub-Condylar Fracture Repair: Navigating the Parotid Gland

For a large percentage of condylar fractures, open surgical treatment provides superior outcomes in terms of long-term occlusal stability and function. Determining which surgical approach to use in treating condylar fractures can be challenging, and access is balanced against the risk of complications – most notably injury to the facial nerve branches and parotid gland. This session will present two different surgical approaches, both utilizing a retromandibular incision, but with different pathways of dissection that can be used to access, reduce and fixate the majority of sub-condylar fractures.
