Patient-specific implants (PSIs) have become a common practice in orthognathic surgery – consistently demonstrating their ability to enhance precision while reducing intraoperative time. One limitation of using PSIs is the need for larger incisions and a more extensive surgical approach required to accommodate the cutting guides and plates. Due to this, PSIs in minimally invasive orthognathic procedures have been limited. This session will describe the use of PSI in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery including advantages, disadvantages, and limitations.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Explain the advantages of minimally invasive orthognathic surgery.
Describe the use of PSIs in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery.
Discuss various cutting and drilling guides as well as plate designs used in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery.
Examine the indications, contraindications and limitations of the use of PSIs in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery.
