Dr. John S. Vorrasi completed undergraduate educationat Tufts University where he graduated Cum Laude in Chemical Engineering, and he completed dental school at SUNY Buffalo in 2008 where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. His OMFS residency was completed at University of Maryland Medical Center in 2013 focusing on orthognathic surgery for facial deformities and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) surgery.
He began my academic Christiana Care Health System, in Delaware, as Program Director for the OMS residency program as well as associate director of research and simulation training. in 2016, he transitioned to University of Rochester OMFS program and became Program Director in 2020. He has particular interests in orthognathic surgery, TMJ surgery and reconstruction, facial reconstruction, and trauma. He has publications in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, OMS Knowledge Updates- Orthognathic Surgery, and several chapters in the Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the latest edition of Fonseca Oral and Maxillofacial. He was co-recipient of Geistlich Osteoscience Research grant in 2015 for tissue engineering in collaboration with the University of Delaware and 2014 recipient of Christiana Care’s “Rising Star” faculty award. He currently serves on the Board for the New York Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Patient Quality and Safety Council at the University of Rochester Medical Center, and the Digital Council at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
He is a diplomate of the American Board of OMS, fellow of the American Association of OMS, member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) dental honor society, and memeber of the American Society of TMJ Surgeons.
