Dr. Andrew Salama is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He attended Union College in Schenectady, New York and went on to earn both Dental and Medical Degrees at the University of Maryland. He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) also at the University of Maryland followed by a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstruction in 2007. Dr. Salama has maintained an academic surgical practice since then starting at the University of Maryland and then Boston University (BU) prior to moving to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2021. He served as the OMFS residency and fellowship director for 10 years at Boston University. His clinical practice is focused on head and neck pathology and reconstruction and maxillofacial trauma. He has published extensively in the peer-reviewed literature and contributed numerous book chapters. His current research focuses on resident/trainee mental health and surgical peak-performance. He is the recipient of numerous teaching awards and is active member in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the American Head and Neck Society.
