Complications associated with implant surgery can have a devastating effect on the outcome of treatment. The presentations in this session aim to shed light on the various challenges that can arise during and after implant surgery and equip dental professionals with the knowledge needed to effectively prevent, diagnose and address these issues.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Recognize and list common complications associated with implant procedures, such as infection, implant failure, peri-implantitis and bone loss.
  2. Describe risk factors that can contribute to implant complications, including medical history, smoking and oral hygiene.
  3. Explain treatment options available for managing implant complications and the factors that influence the choice of treatment, including implant removal, bone grafting and soft-tissue management.
  4. Examine lessons learned from past implant complications and discuss how these experiences can lead to improved patient care and safety.
