Over 5,000 independent OMS practices are competing with 50+ invisible dental support organizations (IDSOs) for the approximately 250 residents who graduate each year. Some DSOs and IDSOs are offering six-figure signing bonuses and $750,000 first-year guarantees. Most also are offering immediate ownership. OMSs’ future transition options have changed dramatically. All OMS practices will ultimately compete with DSOs and IDSOs or partner with one. This is not a popular topic, but it is the new reality. Doctors of all ages are joining IDSOs for a variety of reasons, such as initial liquidity, access to new associates, and capital and support for growth. This session will detail why IDSO partnership is not a short-term exit, but rather a long-term wealth-building strategy.
