Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Discuss the physiology of pregnancy and the ideal timing of surgical intervention in the pregnant patient.
  2. Examine special considerations in the treatment of pregnant and lactating patients.
  3. Describe safe medication use in pregnant and lactating patients.
  4. Explain indications to “pump and dump” in the lactating patient.
