This session will explore current controversies in TMJ trauma management in adult and pediatric patients. While current therapy should be guided by evidence-based medicine, the scientific literature contains conflicting evidence in many areas of TMJ treatment. An evaluation of the available evidence and clinical experience will be presented, and attendees will learn guidelines for TMJ trauma management.
Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
Discuss controversies in open versus closed intracapsular fracture management.
Evaluate the degree of displacement of TMJ fracture and treatment indications.
Determine how to best manage a TMJ articular disc in the setting of trauma.
