SS04 - Update for Osteoradionecrosis

Patients with osteoradionecrosis (ORN) present numerous challenges for clinicians in managing oral healthcare needs. ORN may have a broad health impact for patients with a history of radiation therapy. This case-based session will review evidence-based data and innovative strategies for diagnosis, risk assessment, prevention and management of ORN with related outcomes and complications.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Discuss contemporary management strategies for the prevention of ORN in patients with a history of radiation therapy.
  2. Describe risk factors for osteoradionecrosis.
  3. Examine management strategies for patients at risk for ORN and those with current ORN.
  4. Identify management strategies for dental implant surgery in patients with a history of head and neck cancer.
