Dr. Michael Schiappa is currently in his chief year of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago and is originally from Lincolnwood, IL on the north side of Chicago. He attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA for his undergraduate education and received a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. Michael developed and patented a device, the oral capnography accessory, for use in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery sedations, was accepted into the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and also played four years of Division 1 lacrosse during his time at Bucknell. He received his dental training from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in New York, NY in 2021, where he was accepted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and received the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award. Michael's research interests include biomedical engineering applications in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the development of devices to aid in improving patient safety and surgical outcomes. His clinical interests include orthognathic surgery, trauma, implantology, hard and soft tissue grafting and outpatient anesthesia.
