While the percentage of women pursuing careers in oral and maxillofacial surgery continues to rise, its is important to continue cultivating support and increasing the visibility of women in the specialty. Studies have shown that women in leadership and speaker roles have a positive impact on both women and men within the specialty. This session will highlight successful strategies to support women and look at areas for improvement. Attendees will be encouraged to identify barriers as well as their role in supporting women in the OMS specialty.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants should be able to:
  1. Examine barriers obstructing women's entry into the OMS specialty and discuss how to reduce obstacles.
  2. Shed light on practices that undermine women in the OMS specialty and other areas for improvement.
  3. Learn how to develop partnerships to advocate for female colleagues and increase diversity in the specialty.
